Thanks to excellent coordination between VTG’s German and Russian project logistics teams, parts of an air separation unit with maximum dimensions of 18.5 m x 4.40 m x 3.80 m and weighing up to 64.5 tons were successfully transported from Turkey to the Khabarovsk region in Eastern Siberia.
The first leg of the transport route was done by ship to Vladivostok. Upon arrival at the port, the tanks were loaded onto trucks by crane in icy cold weather. Thus, the team’s full concentration and care was required to correctly attach the loads to the lifting points and then lift them despite the adverse weather conditions.
A road survey for the 1,200 km route from the port of Vladivostok to Amursk was required in advance. The entire road course was checked for solid ground and bridge underpasses, crossings, traffic control facilities, overhead power lines and railroad crossings were all carefully measured in order to cope with this oversized heavy-lift cargo transport.
