Since April 2016, ISTAMCO has been involved in the building of this huge bridge by providing all the necessary assistance to the floating equipment. This bridge that will be the first to connect the two shores of the Gambia River aims to foster the economic flow between the North and the South of Senegal and the Gambia, and by extension all the countries of the CEDEAO region.
To build the bridge that will be 942 meters long and 16,5 meters high, cranes have been loaded on floating barges. These barges, tug boat and crew is supplied by B&I Shipping Project, a sister company of ISTAMCO. ISTAMCO has done all the stevedoring to unload these materials coming from Europe in Dakar, and currently is the agent of this equipment in Farafeni.
Construction of the Bridge started in May 2016 and should be finished end 2019.

Tugboats mobilized in Farafeni to move the barges.
B&I barges loaded with 85mts capacity cranes. Note how wide the river is. Also, current is very strong and changes twice a day with the tides.
