Cory Brothers Group Marketing Manager Mike Bowden has shared the following “work from home” observations with us for today’s newsletter.
We’re getting used to this now, some parts are getting easier and others less so. It’s very difficult seeing the horrid daily updates (and tragic losses) and constantly trying to remain overtly positive. On the flip side we have to accept what is going on around us and focus on the things we can change and influence: the Cory team are going above and beyond to ensure we do our bit for UK plc. All divisions are working longer hours, early starts, late evenings, weekends – whatever is needed. Regular doses of humour are totally required to keep us going and the “work from home” themed photos we send each other and post on social media are getting better every day and providing much needed entertainment. Our colleagues are taking to their hot tubs, trampolines, bathrooms and even the kids garden play tower!
Cory Brothers is a large organisation and with all staff working from home so there is the occasional IT blip but we have an amazing IT team (unsung heroes for us) who I’d compare to an F1 pit crew: lightening quick to ensure we’re all back on track in record time. Every morning we have group and department video meetings, firstly to check that we’re all OK and then onto the work. This invariably involves meeting new family members and pets, inadvertently of course but which is occasionally hilarious, always funny and comforting in equal measure as most of us are in the same proverbial boat!
With cameras on almost every piece of equipment we use for work and in our lives, we’re sharing our homes with each other – behind our reflected selves of course. The workstations and office set ups are in busy shared spaces, bedrooms, converted dining rooms and kitchens. One colleague is using his shed. If the weather continues to improve I expect a few of us will decamp to the garden and why not!
This horrid pandemic has changed us all forever. We’ve all quickly come to recognise how important our working roles are during this unprecedented time. All of us have to do the right thing and adhere to the Government advice. We’re humbled by the frontline services and the key workers that really are true heroes. Our NHS, the Police, Fire service, Shopworkers, Lorry drivers etc. The pride and admiration we have for them all is immense and we pay tribute to their bravery and courage. Behind all the front line workers are more heroes, other key workers. Cory Brothers ships agency teams ensure the vessels delivering cargo into the UK can go ahead as usual. Boarding, processing and managing ALL the vessels’ and crews requirements, legalities, declarations, timings, provisions and more. Our brilliant Agency teams cover nearly all UK ports, are dedicated and reliable: working hard to make sure this vital service continues around the clock and every day. Having invested in the latest systems and technology, which provide us with the essential hardware we need to operate in a global shipping market, we’re fully equipped to make sure our service remains solid, reliable and dependable. This year we are celebrating 178 years’ in business, we’ll still be here when this pandemic is over and we’ll be working hard to ensure the UK recovers. We’ll also be on a diet!
